Weston’s Eagle Project

To obtain the highest rank in Scouting, Eagle Rank, a scout has to complete a community service project that benifits the community. Weston rebuilt a decayed bridge at the Kreher Preserve & Nature Center. Weston successfully planned, coordinated, and oversaw the completion of the project. Go check out the new bridge on the trail at Kreher Preserve & Nature Center and tip your hat to Weston and all scouts and volunteers involved.

Blue Springs State Park Trip

The scouts went to the Blue Springs State Park in Orange City, Florida, and swam in the water, the creek and in the slide. They ate hot dogs, played in the water, and dived down to the bottom of the water with lots of fish. Blue Springs was fun, but it was very cold. Go visit Blue Springs and dive into the cool, blue spring.

Tolula Gorge Trip

On Saturday, March 19, 2022 the boys of Troop 11 and the girls of Troop 19 woke up at a bright and early 4:30 A.M to prepare for their trip later in the day at Tolula Gorge. Soon, they were all in cars and ready to go, but fell asleep about 30 minutes into the drive. After a refreshing 3 hour car nap, the scouts were all energized and ready to descend close to 600 steps and walk back up another 300 to enjoy some gorgeous views. Next, they scaled back to the top of the gorge and enjoyed a nice sandwich picnic on a bench, out of the way of the sun. After that, the scouts came back to camp and cooked a delicious spaghetti dinner while the adults enjoyed steak and baked potatoes. At the end of the day, all the scouts retreated from the cold into their tents and slept until morning, where they ate and packed to head home from yet another amazing trip.

FDR Trip

On January 15-16, Troop 11 took a trip to FDR state park in Georgia. On this trip, the scouts camped and hiked in the beautiful FDR state park wilderness. During the hike, they ate a lunch of sandwiches to minimize trash and continue on their adventure. After they were done hiking, they prepared dinner over the fire and relaxed and played cards until they went to bed. The next morning, they woke up and while it was freezing, they packed their tents and ate breakfast in preperation to head out. Once all fun was had and all facilities were clean, the scouts headed home from once another fantastic trip.

Scouting for Food

On February 12, 2022, Troop 11 went and delivered food to food bank for scouting for food. The scouts dropped off all of the food that we have accumulated from the donations from the scouts over the months

Average Troop 11 meeting

This blog will showcase an average Troop 11 meeting. On a Tuesday, when Troop 11 normally has our meetings, we gathered all present scouts to start the woodworking merit badge. They worked on how to identify and cut wood, and were also given a project to pick some wood that interested them and see it’s key properties. This meeting was an enjoyable and educational time for all of the scouts

Columbus Museum and Treadstone Trip

In december 2021, Boy Scout Troop 11 went to the Columbus Museum and an indoor rock climbing place for a day trip. On this day, the scouts had the opportunity to explore the Columbus Museum and look at all of the amazing artifacts and art that was displayed. Next, after they had seen all there was to see at the museum, they went and ate lunch before setting off to go to Treadstone Columbus, which is an indoor rock climbing arena for anyone who may want to go. The boys harnessed up and scaled the walls for a while, and overall it was a ton of fun. After that, Troop 11 headed home, awaiting the next trip.

Taledega Speedway Trip

On October 2-3, Auburn Troop 11 took an exciting visit to Taledega Speedway! First, on the afternoon of Friday October 2, Troop 11 Loaded up in our cars and started the drive to Taledega. Once we got there, Troop 11 began to set up tents since it was starting to get late. After that, Troop 11 sat around and ate dinner and talked until it was time for bed. We got up the next morning, ate breakfast, and started off to the speedway. It was a long walk, but we eventually made it to the Garage Experience, where all of the cars and trucks were shown. Next, we found our seats and prepared for the Truck race that was coming up. It was a great time and we all got to see the trucks going very fast. The next race was cars, and they were going a whole lot faster. After the races were over, the scouts started to pack up because the forecast for the next day was looking pretty bad. Then, we all headed home from our great trip at Taledega Motor Speedway.

Maxwell Air Force Base Day Trip

On Saturday 25 of September, the Scouts of Auburn Troop 11 took a day trip to Maxwell Air Force Base. They first met up at the hut and then took a drive to the base. Next, they got out and cleared to go in and took a self-guided tour around the base, and were able to see all of the facilities offered. The boys also got to admire all of the planes that they had on base. During the walk, the boys of Troop 11 decided to stop at a shaded place for lunch. After their lunch break, the scouts set back off on the rest of their tour around the base. Soon, it was time to part and head home from our great trip at Maxwell Air Force Base.

Smith Mountain Firetower Trip

On August 21, 2021, Troop 11 took a day trip to Smith Mountain Firetower in Dadeville, Alabama. There was a short but beautiful hike to the firetower, where a few scouts climbed up and learned about some of the history and facts about the tower. At the top of Smith Mountain Firetower, there was a map of what all that was able to be seen. Our scouts looked over 9 counties from the tower! After that jolly time, the scouts came back down the tower and enjoyed thier lunches and snacks that they had brought from home. Next, Troop 11 went back to the car and headed home from a great day trip.
