Paul Bunyan and Forestry Campout

On Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14 Boy Scout Troop 11 visited one of our leader’s properties. There were beautiful trees, green grass, and plenty of space to camp and play. On Friday, the troop met at our hut and got all of our gear ready and then took a short drive to one of our leader’s property. When we got there, we set up camp, ate dinner, and then played until everyone was ready for bed for what tomorrow had in store. Bright and early Saturday morning, our troop woke up and were visited by Mr. Dale of the Urban Forestry Department. Mr. Dale then proceeded to teach us the forestry merit badge and showed us how to identify trees. Then we all had a nice lunch. Next, we spent the afternoon working on the Paul Bunyan Award, where we identified tools that deal with cutting down and trimming trees. After that we did a project to help clean up a trail on the property and make it even more beautiful than it already was. Then we worked on lashing and even built a tripod, a tool rack, and a catapult. After that we were all hungry and ready for dinner so we ate and then played some more and went to bed. On Sunday morning, the scouts who had not yet achieved First Class worked on a mile orienteering course to move them a little closer to the rank. Lastly, we had to say goodbye to the amazing property that we had just spent our weekend at, then went home.
