On Saturday, October 12, Troop 11 set off to a place called Dismals Canyon. We rode in our cars for a few hours, then arrived at our campsite, which was not at Dismals and set up. Then, we hopped back into the cars, and rode to Dismals Canyon.
After a little while, we arrived at Dismals. Everyone got out of their vehicles and walked up the gravel road to the entrance. Once we were past the gate, we got to the store where you pay and got our bracelets that were proof that we were supposed to be there. We walked down the patio and down the stairs. Once we were down the stairs, we saw a part of the beautiful inside of Dismals Canyon State Park. There were rocks, flowing water down the stream, and trees.
We spent a few hours exploring the inside of dismals, which had a very cool temperature. The members of Troop 11 talked, played, laughed and joked all the way through, some exploring other ways to go places. Once we walked back up those stairs we walked down about 4 hours earlier we visited the cafe called “The Soda Fountain” and got milkshakes. After we were all done, we drove back to the campsite.
We arrived at the campsite and ate our dinners that we had packed. Earlier in the day the boys saw a baseball field near the entrance to the campsite. After dinner, they all left while the adults sat near the fire and talked. The boys got back at around dark and talked around the fire for a little bit, then went to bed in their tents.
The next day, we woke up, got our packs, and went to Natural bridge. It was a short but beautiful hike and also a trial run to test if we could handle our packs or if they needed to be adjusted. Then we got back in our cars and said goodbye to Dismals Canyon and Natural Bridge.
