On Saturday September 14th, Troop 11 went to Wishbone Island on Lake Martin. We were all at the scout hut by 7:00 A.M, and gone by 7:30. After about an hour and a half car ride, Troop 11 finally arrived at Lake Martin.
We went to a dock and got our canoes and boat in the water. The Scouts rode in the canoes and the adults rode on the boat. The scouts enjoyed a nice, 15 minute canoe trip on the sparkling and smooth waters of lake martin, laughing and talking all the way through.
When we arrived, we set up camp on Wishbone Island. After that, The Senior Patrol Leader and his chosen assistant went to put geocaches around the island. They returned about an hour later with a deer skull they later named “Hue” and gave the scouts coordinates for the geocaches.
Once that activity was finished an hour or two later, carnitas, Mr. John’s specialty, were beginning to cook. While the scouts were waiting, they decided to go swimming in the water’s of lake martin. Soon, the carnitas were done. These delicious, pork shreds perfectly cooked and put in tortillas with cheese, guacamoli, and avacados made an exellent and filling dinner.
After the carnitas were done, the scouts went down to the boat talking and playing and laughing, having a good time. Soon, everyone was asleep in their tents or hammocs. In the morning, our chefs from each patrol were cooking a delicious breakfast of eggs, pancakes, ham and bacon.
Once everyone had a filling breakfast, it was time to pack up. We got our gear, cleaned up the island a bit, and set off on the canoes. We got back to the cars, and drove home. We’ll see you next year, Wishbone Island.
